How I became a Michael Jackson Fan - A tribute post.
ONCE upon a time, I found a piece of black and white postcard on the floor- in which a man's portrait was printed on it.

(Picture for reference only. In actual fact, I'd already lost the postcard.)

Being a young and naive girl I was, I showed it to my mum.

"Mum, who is this guy in the picture?"

"Michael Jackson", came the reply.

"Oh".

With that, I thrashed it away somewhere in my house, and eventually forgot all about it. (Why should I give a damn about the picture when I did not even know who in the world that guy was?!)

And I carried on with my life.

Years later, I watched the news from a Taiwan channel which showed a guy dangling his baby out of the balcony. The video was being played and I was astonished.

"Oh god, this guy is insane!! He probably had mental issues." I snickered.

And frequent news of this very same guy came on, which revolved around molestation cases and skin bleaching issues.

"How in the world can this guy be a celebrity?!" I exclaimed, disgusted.

Everything about this guy is just so wrong. He was so eccentric and it weirded me out. But well, not my business anyway.

.
.

It was 25th June 2009, another ordinary day. (or so, I thought.) I came home happily from my shopping trip, when my mum greeted me with news that "Michael Jackson is dead."

"WHAT? DEAD?!" I exclaimed, suddenly alert for no reason. (Lol. It was a funny reaction, judging from the fact that I wasn't even a fan.)

For the next few days, all newspapers, magazines and the media screamed the words "Michael Jackson" on the front headlines, reporting about his life and death.

"Oh gosh, why are there news of Michael Jackson EVERYDAY?!" I said, irritated. I didn't even bother to read those news. Well, he's dead. DUH. (Yes, in case you are wondering, I wasn't even a fan during the day he died!)

When I was doing some blog-hopping one day, I even came across this girl who had indicated that she loves Michael Jackson. And yes, I actually did feel disgusted. I knew I would NEVER be a fan of this man. It was just insane.

Until one day... I came across this video on a random basis a few days after his death: (I guess I had nothing much to do, so I decided to stop and watch this anyway.)

I couldn't believe this 4 minutes video actually changed my impression of this guy. Somehow, I felt a weird sensation. There was this.... something... about him. I continued to research on this guy through video after video, website after website. (Its like a sudden interest that I can't exactly explain.)

And it hit me that this guy wasn't what I had imagined him to be. I was dumbfounded when I discovered how much this guy had actually contributed to the world , and how MISUNDERSTOOD he was during the days he was alive. All those accusations against him throughout these years are TOTALLY not how the media made them out to be. I was in a state of disbelief. Oh god, it is so, so wrong. Why did the media portray him in such a way that led so many people, including me, to believe that he has mental issues - when apparently, he is just this normal, down-to-earth, kind and one of the nicest people in the world? Honestly, I was overwhelmed by an influx of emotions.

Skin bleaching? He had been suffering from the torment of vitiligo, a pigmentation disease that causes blotches of white spots all over the body. And somehow, the media had reported that the reason for his skin bleaching was due to the fact that he looked down at his own roots. (which I adamantly believed.)

A pedophile? Well, it was all proven to be a lie after his death. I couldn't believe that the kid who had accused him earlier had admitted that he was just making up stories, and everything was untrue. (Although he did feel guilty about it, but there's no point in that anymore as everything is too late. Michael.Jackson. Is. Dead.)

And there were so many other things that he was accused of that weren't even close to the truth. (You couldn't blame me for believing everything I heard, because media was the source of all negativity against him then.)

As each of the day passes by after his death, I felt affected in a way. It was indescribable . Don't ask me why and how I was suddenly a fan of this man. The truth is, I do not know. From someone who didn't even give a damn about his death on 25th June 2009, to someone who is now a huge fan of him. It was a fast transition, I admit.

(Believe it or not- While I wasn't a fan, I've never heard any songs that he sang before, nor did I know what is a moonwalk. People could moonwalk right in my face and I would not know it is something that originated from Michael Jackson's trademark. I knew zero percent about his existence. Ironic, isn't it?)

Soon, I became fascinated at things and topics that concern him. I had wanted soooo much to meet more local fans. When I heard that "THIS IS IT" (the movie about him that were to come out in cinemas), I couldn't wait to watch it. I just wanted more of this guy.

When I saw that Sony was organizing a contest to win the tickets, I joined. Imagine my happiness and surprise when I found out I was one of the winners!
Immediately, I tried to search for other winners who had won it too via facebook, and we organized a small meet-up session when we would attend it together. It proved to be a lovely meet-up session as I had made a few great friends through that, in which we remained in contact till now. :) (You guys know who you are! ;))

Soon, I tried to search for his local fanclub, but to no avail. (I was like, "are you kidding? He doesn't have a fanclub in Singapore?!"

Well, I then decided to set up a forum fanclub myself, hoping that I would be able to meet even more local fans. (which I did!)

Well, thinking back... We've indeed came a long way. From an informal fanclub to now an official fanclub in Singapore, known as "KING OF POP FANATICS SINGAPORE" (KOPFS) - founded by Marie, one of my lovely friends whom I had known through the forum, it definitely wasn't easy.

Till now, I do get questions such as "How long have you been a fan of Michael Jackson?"
Well, it did make me inferior in the past whenever I had to answer this question, but I do not really care anymore.

People laugh when I say I've only been a fan after his death. So what? I'll bet there are many others who became a fan too after his death. (Yes, its a pity that we didn't get to know and understand him earlier, but there's nothing we can do, too.)

It's not easy to say that you are a fan only after his death, because old fans will think we are just hypocrites or rather, fake fans. Its an unfair remark when we get generalized as one.

Whatever it is, I am thankful for the all beautiful friendships and LOVE that I was blessed with through the year. *hugs* >

Rest in peace, Michael Joe Jackson.

P/S: For haters of Michael Jackson, please do take time in understanding the truth about him. He is still a human afterall, and deserves as much respect as you do. By senselessly bashing him and giving crude remarks is not going to do you any favors. If you do not bother to do a search on him and understand the truth behind the media LIES, then you have no right to comment on him.

Unpleasant experience
Alright, this isn't going to be a pleasant entry as its regarding a complaint I'd lodged against Kbox.
For you regulars of Kbox out there, I believe many of you have similar encounters as me.

Apparently, they are having an 8th Anniversary promotion currently, in which members have to pay ONLY a total of $8/= for the 2pm-7pm session.
Well, knowing how things often work at Kbox, my friend made an advance booking for one of the rooms. (They will always come up with freaking excuses if you didn't make any booking(s) and such.)

NOTE THAT WE HAD ALREADY BOOKED. Hence, it's logical if priority is given to us first, right? But imagine my FRUSTRATION and DISAPPOINTMENT when we were asked to leave at 4pm, when in ACTUAL fact it was supposed to be till 7pm.

And behold! We have to pay the same price for a cut-down timing which is entirely not our fault.

Their reason?

Because they have reservations from other customers. (My friend told me that the staff mentioned to her that "if there are customers coming in, then we'll have to leave at 4pm. If not, our time will be extended.")

RIDICULOUS OR NOT?

The question is, "Why do we have to depend on the amount of customers that Kbox is getting, while still having to pay the same amount of money nonetheless? Shouldn't there be any rebate if the hours are cut down due to overwhelming customers?"

For friends and people who had been reading my old blog years ago, you'd have realized that this is not the FIRST time I encountered this issue. Well, now THIS is even WORSE than the previous's!

Update: Anyway, Kbox had responded to my complaint mail and apologized for the unpleasant experience. However, they still made it a point that the hours given to us are not guaranteed as we have to accommodate other customers too. Duh.

Outdated Post
Had realized that I had forgotten to update some of the stuff which I'd intended to weeks ago:

21st May 2010:

-Invited to a Create2011 event by my school, (I went with Des and Ah Miao!) which was a real eye-opener. (Singapore has soooo many talented individuals after all!)
Do check out their site at: http://www.create2011.com.sg/

Regardless of whether you are an aspiring engineer or designer-t0-be, I am sure you will be amazed. Its a pity that my age is over the limit and I am not eligible for the contest!

Nonetheless, it was a fascinating experience as we were treated to a free screening of 3-D movie, "SHREK FOREVER AFTER" @ Cathay, with food and drink provided! It was superior treatment. Hahaha.

P/S: Their popcorn is damn niceeeeee! Except that its too sweet!

Wanted to post up a threesome picture of Ah Miao, Des and me while wearing our 3-D glasses, but I realized I look very #$*)#)($#$ in the pic. Better not.

P/S: It was funny when one of the photographers wanted to snap a photo of me in the cinema, which I immediately struck a "peace sign" pose. =_= When I looked around, I realized that I was the only one wearing 3-D glasses before the movie screening. (Speaking of KIASU spirit -_-) NO WONDER he wanted to shoot me. So embarrassing!

30th May 2010:

Sakae Sushi with Eddie. (Cute nickname, huh? lol)

Met up with Eddie a.k.a Satoru days before his admission into N.S. :( Aww..It was actually during the period of my hectic exams, but I'd wanted to meet him all the same as it will be difficult to once he gets in.

*There are problems in uploading the sushi pictures*

Nonetheless, thank you for taking me around the new shopping mall. :) Do take care during your NS admission...! *hugs*

There are gonna be so many events happening in June and am looking forward to themmmmmmmmmm......... Yes, and I miss my MJ family!

Inspiring Go-Getters' Guide
Here's an extract I read from CLEO magazine that I really find inspiring... (and mostly true to an extent!) I shall be kind enough to type em' out and share with everyone out here! :D (You are welcome, lol)

GO-GETTER'S GUIDE:

1. If you don't ask, you don't get.

2. Don't say YES if you mean NO.

3. Never let self-consciousness stop you doing something- people are more interested in their own lives than what you're getting up to.

4. If you act like a doormat, you'll get treated like one.

5. To get on in life, you've got to network. Get out there and meet new people, even if you're shaking inside.

6. You're as good as anyone else so never let someone's superior attitude make you feel insecure.

7. If you look good, you feel good- treat yourself to a fab haircut and keep your bod in shape.

8. Don't just TALK about it, DO it - whether its bungee jumping or asking a boy for a date.

9. Stand up for your principles, even if you rock the boat.

10. Be tough enough to accept criticism and learn from it.

.... Now, did any of the above points hit you on the head?? ;)

HEY PEOPLE, HEY! PEOPLE?! HEY!
Omg, I think I am obsessed with a talking (and annoying!) orange.
If you frequent Youtube alot, I am sure you will not miss this out:
(Trust me, this orange LOOKS and SOUNDS irritating, but somehow its.... adorable in a way. HAHA)

Sometimes I just feel like punching and squashing it to a pulp! But I'll look twice before eating an orange now. (Who knows, my orange will start a conversation and annoy the hell out of me.)
...

Anyway, my exams are just around the corner.. AGAIN! Will not be blogging so much, but will try to!

An act of selfishness

Some blogshops really do get on my nerves (and I believe many others' too).

If you freaking' do NOT bother or GIVE A DAMN to put up an advertisement tagboard in your blogshop, then please refrain from posting your advertisements in others'. AS SIMPLE AS THAT. This is how everything works - in a 2-way basis.

I would say that you are a very selfish soul if you continue tagging on other people's boards and yet not allowing others to tag back. Please man, get yourselves a tagboard before you start spamming your way around. Stop being so self-centered.

Don't start a blogshop if you can't follow the basic rules. Thank you very much.
